Bikes in Bus Lanes - Please sign the Petition

#1 Post by D-Rider » Tue Jun 05, 2007 9:41 pm

There is a petition on the Government's website to request that Bikes and Scooters be allowed to legally ride in all Bus Lanes.
This can only be a good thing for us - and, especially for new riders on small machines.

The petition can be found here:
Bikes In Bus Lanes

I don't think this has been particularly well publicised - I spotted it in a small column in MCN expressing concern that only 7000 had signed up. It's now up to 7,800 but I guess more are required to get it taken seriously - so please sign up and publicise wherever you can - friends, family, other forums - wherever.
The petition closes on 22nd July.

I'm signed-up.

Hate to say this and it won't make me popular but I'm not convinced it's necessarily a good thing, bikes in bus lanes that is.
We all like the idea but I have to say I have seen some pretty awful riding by motorcyclists in general blatting in and out of lanes in a dangerous manor but yes in a perfect world but it's not. :smt009

I know what you mean - but if there's a chance of my kids riding on a less busy bit of road - particularly while they are learning - then it gets my vote.

Please sign the Petition
No, as that shithead Mr Livingstone will just ignore it as he hates motorbikes.

Now if you asked for a vote on who would be up to kill the bastid, I'd vote for that and might even consider doing it if the moneys right.

WTF has he gotta do with the price of fish?
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Allow the use of "Bus Only" lanes by scooters and motorcyles throughout the UK.

The prime minister has no say neither does the government, its left to the devices of County Councils and Metropolitan Boroughs.

Gio ..... your comments reflect the current situation about responsibility for the use of Bus Lanes - the point of the petition is to capitalise on the recent dept for transport statements of encouragement for local authorities to allow bikes to use bus lanes and to attempt to get the government to make this a universal situation where bikes can use bus lanes throughout the country - not just with those forward-thinking councils that choose to allow it.
I guess this may require some minor legislation or something.

Now stop being petty and sign up to do something that may just save the lives of some young bikers! (but of course it's up to you).
It may or may not be a futile act but it's better to try than to ignore. The same could be said of me and my son joining thousands of others in a mass ride around Donnington in aid of the KillSpills campaign in the hope that eventually we may prevent some poor s@d from falling off on spilled diesel ..........

Sorry .... rant over .....
