Tail Tidy & New Indies

#1 Post by D-Rider » Wed Jul 16, 2014 9:08 pm

After years of ridicule by Mr Dean, I've succumbed to ditching the standard indicators and gone LED all round (proper job without the need for load resistors)

Tail Tidy added at the same time. Legal reg plate of course (no point in drawing unnecessary attention)

Old and New arse end:

New indies on the front too - but they are not as "trick" as the rear ones.

:)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I seem to recall you teasing us all with the "I've got a better solution than the diode mod" then neglecting to actually tell us what that may be.

So did you do it with diodes or monkey magic?

Yes

...... I can now easily confirm whether I've signalled to turn right or to turn left - not that it's usually that difficult to remember but on the odd occasion that you neglect to cancel the indies, it's helpful to know what message you're sending to all around.

Aha, separate teltale lights, I'm guessing in the little holes to the top left and right of the dash in the mounting bracket.

No - just the one - no changes outside the dash.

That's quite all right, I didn't object to the standard ones - which is why it took me ages to change them.
I'm happy with the new ones though - but I can understand that some will prefer the standard items.
The new set up does stop the right hand indicator being hidden behind the high-level exhaust which was previously the case from some angles.

That was a previous enhancement some time ago. 2 cans are unnecessary, add weight (and let's face it, with me on the bike, we need to save some somewhere) cost more when you replace them with aftermarket items and offer fewer choices of can than the Mille single pipe system.
..... and I prefer the look.

I can see the reasoning behind both mods. But the twin pipes is one of the things that I like about the falco that and the dinner plate size indicators :smt005

I do like the smoked lenses though :smt003

Interested in the tail tidy Andy. Was that a self fabricated one or a bought version? Either way do you have any vendor details or dimensions, angles, plate thickness etc?

Hi Pete ..... well the answers are not so straightforward .....

The main part of the tail tidy is one of those that Wayno was selling:
https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.ph ... ight=plate

That is a 2-part jobbie but I haven't used the part that holds the standard number plate light.

If you want to use your existing indicators and numberplate light, then you don't need any more than Wayno's kit (if still available).

I made up an aluminium plate that attached to Wayno's tail tidy unit that carries the number plate and was designed to carry the new indicators with the required spacing. it also has a projection at the top to carry the legally required reflector.
Somewhere I have a sketch of this (unless I chucked it out). If you need it, I could probably draw it up for you.

The indicators (with built in numberplate lights) are these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-LED-Num ... 2c84eadb6b

The reflector is this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Red-Reflector ... 3cd8f3e923
